My story

My story. I could start this article by giving you background as to what I have done, who I have met and my big career goals or fancy jargon. I am going to start off by saying that I started my website because of my circumstances and passion for leading an inspirational life. I was always the one all my friends would come to with their problems; fashion dilemmas and skin care questions .  I have discovered that this was my calling.  I honestly enjoyed helping others.  When I had worked in retail 90% of my success was the return of my loyal customers and today I would love to thank them for placing their trust in me.  I had moved from my country, South Africa, Cape Town about 3 years ago and travelled with my husband for a while. We then moved to Australia. This was my test of faith.  I had applied for my visa and had to go off shore to collect it.  I had also applied for a job as a Store Manager for one of the leading ladies fashion brands.  I got the job, so exiting.  So I had it planned didn’t I? A new job in Australia, my visa was approved and I was planning my wedding.  Three weeks into my new job, I felt a bit funny and guess what, I was pregnant.  I had chosen my wedding gown and I was all set to go.  At the time it was all too much for me. A big move, planning a wedding, being pregnant and most importantly being miles away from my family. I have to mention that I have been blessed with such beautiful in-laws. I call them Mum and Dad, they are my Australian parents and I love them to death.  I would move heaven and earth for them.

I then decided that taking such a strenuous job was not going to work, especially taking into account that they needed a full time person.  I had decided that this was not going to work for me or the company.  Having said all of that, the wedding was on its way, not to mention the change of my wedding gown to suit my baby bump.  Hitting rock bottom.  I felt isolated and alone. My South African drivers license was null and void. My friends and family were no longer surrounding me, so much happening at once. My life as I had known it to be was gone. I had to start all over. New country, new life.

I then had my son and oh what a joy, the joys of having that little life placed in your arms made everything worth it.  I had started my own monthly newsletter to all my friends back home in South Africa called Women Get Inspired, catching up on the whereabouts of everyone.  I was amazed at just how inspired I felt after reading their stories.  I found my passion through blogging.  Blogging about life, fashion and beauty.  If I am experiencing an issue, dilemma or have found inspiration, I blog about this in the hope that others can have a “AH, HA” moment.  I say this with only truth, my website is my dream come true.

About me, I am a practical person, who loves family life, my son and my beautiful husband.  If I could I would live in jeans all day everyday.  I love easy glamour.  My favourite food is chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate, oh, you were hoping for ………  My home is my haven and I enjoy surrounding myself with positive energy.  I am a proud Taurean.  My husband is a Taurean as well and my little boy a Gemini.  I don’t believe in being fake, I tell it like it is.  I am attracted to real people, people who have essence and depth.  I live my life in respect for humanity; I believe that we radiate energy everyday, whether it is good or bad.  My goal in life is to live a life with no or little regrets.  I am who I am and I am proud to be Desmore Nero.  My mantra. You will find yourself in your darkest hour and when you do, you have the choice to sink or swim.  You have a choice, only you can decide.

My background. Desmore’s highlight of her earlier career was when she staged an events night of glitz and glamour for her customers, showcasing the various fashionable styles in underwear.  This event turned out to be an enormous success, becoming the first staff member in the company to attempt an event of this nature.  Desmore was then asked to assist with the opening event of the now very chic La Zenza Lingerie store.  Her success landed her a spot  on a well known Cape Town radio talk show where she was named Cape Town’s Inspirational woman of the month.

After many years of working in the retail industry, she moved on to working at the Sanctuary Spa within the Twelve Apostles Hotel, a 5 star Hotel and Spa located on the coast near Camps Bay.

This opportunity introduced to her a new type of client to deal with, the celebrity status customer.  Desmore was fortunate to interact with diplomatic heads of state, influential business, entertainment and sporting celebrities. Desmore believed that no matter who you are your need for good customer service does not change.  Whilst working in this environment she decided to pursue a career in PR,  studying part-time towards her degree.

A close friend for many years,  Natalie Becker, a well known actress, television personality and radio presenter, inspired Desmore to take on a new career role in fashion styling.   As Desmore says, “ I enjoy the energy of a wardrobe filled with ‘practical’ glamour”.   Desmore had always known that her love of styling, her passion for clothing and beauty was a burning desire just waiting to be exposed.   Having travelled to Paris, London and several other countries, the excitement of world trends and further traveling only increased her growing interest in fashion.  Having taken on further studies. Desmore is well on her way to becoming a very knowledgeable and experienced  professional within the fashion industry, especially personal styling. My most cherished moments in my career was the one’s spent working long hard hours and many years within the retail industry.  I have gained a world of knowledge that follows me wherever I may be.

Desmore’s passion and love of fashion and beauty has inspired her to launch her own blog site. She enjoys helping women look good and feel fabulous through helpful styling tips, beauty advice and inspiration. Her goal is to give her readers the tools to step out into the world with confidence and enthusiasm. Empowering them to walk tall, love their bodies, enjoy life and feel inspired.

My Role model. My beautiful mother, she had raised both my brother and I all on her own, being a single mother must have been the hardest thing.  She had worked in a factory as a machinist.  Her salary was not the biggest, her faith was the strongest.  She was up every morning at 5am getting ready for work.  Both my brother and I lacked nothing, we had love, we were both well dressed and we had a mother who loved us dearly.  She was always home. I can’t remember a night were we would ever go to bed without her tucking us in.  I now realize just how much of a role model she is to me.  Growing up, both my brother and I had shared a room with my mum.  We had a two bedroomed house, one was for my Grandmother and Grandfather. Believe me, I would have changed nothing. Every night my mum and I would chat until we had fallen asleep.  She had taught me the valuable lessons of survival, she said “you can be anything you want to be” I was inspired.  My first job was at the age of 17 whilst in High School.  I had saved up and purchased my first car around the age of 21, then paid for my own studies.  I believe in hard work, I believe that you have to step out of the passenger seat and into the drivers seat, take control and drive to your desired destiny.  Today I understand all those tears I would see her wipe off her face, could not understand why my mother would cry behind close doors.

Wrap up. I have turned my passion into reality.  I work from home or shall I say my office is home. Meet new clients, attend events, grow my brand and enjoy a balanced life. My believe is that you have the power to choose a life of happiness by surrounding yourself with people who inspire you and your soul.

My website is my brand and my mission is to Inspire you
